We are delighted to be working with syrupy-sweet, traditional cake maker Melitropon, owned and run by Stavros Avramakos. Stavros set up the business in Athens in 1990, but his family go back four generations to Constantinople (today’s Istanbul) where they refined and passed down the recipes and skills of making the finest filo-based delicacies. To the early beginnings in Constantinople they incorporated Eastern influences and then his family moved to Mani in mainland Greece, where their pastries took on the regional flavours laced with honey of the finest quality. Stavros has a passion for creating his most wonderful products using traditional hand-crafted production lines, governed by the highest standards, always seeking to innovate and introduce new dessert creations.
Papanaretos has been making premium ice cream desserts since 1937. Papanaretos started 80 years ago operating from horse-drawn wagons, serving the nearby villages and towns in and around Thessaloniki. Due to demand the workshop and, subsequently, the factory were established in Giannitsa, Northern Greece.
Today, the business is run by the third generation of the Papanaretos family, which remains true to the founding father’s quality ideals. The company has invested in modern production techniques and equipment, but continues to rely on traditional and guarded recipes. Papanaretos makes its own ice cream and, unusually, it makes its own chocolate as well. The company has been innovative in introducing new flavours and in launching its new line of mini-ices.
